The petrographic report into harden concrete takes account of ASTM C 856 Standard Recommended Practice for Petrographic Examination of Hardened Concrete and involves visual examination of the core or other samples submitted and preparation of one or more thin section for microscopic examination. Information is provided on the nature and proportions of coarse and fine aggregates, cement, voids, carbonation depth, fractures, AAR reaction products, and comments on requested aspects. SEM analysis maybe used to confirm presence of very fine deleterious components if required.
